Hey all,

Is there anyone who would like to give War of the Ring a chance?

I have gone over the rules pretty thoroughly now and they look great. Unlike the last Lord of the Rings game, it looks like GW really produced a good product this time.

I have a couple of sample army lists and enough fantasy miniatures to proxy them for some demo games.

A quick summary of the game

It's designed for quick play and big battles. To keep things running smoothly most figs are organized into companies of 8 infantry or 2 cavalry all on one movement tray that move and fight together. Companies are then organized into formations that move together but act as separate entities.

the turns are broken up with each player moving before anyone shoots before anyone fights. There is a priority system that determines who gets to go first in each phase, although heroes can influence that somewhat.

Movement is fairly simple, there is no specific cost for wheeling or turning or such, just each company cannot move further than its movement.

Attacks are worked out with a single die roll, no to-ht roll followed by a wound roll followed by a saving throw.

While the game is designed to handle lots of troops, heroes have some crazy powerful abilities and can have a big impact on games. They have a pool of "might points" that they can spend during the game to perform special actions and influence dice rolls and stuff that adds a deep tactical element to the game.

Finally, while the game is technically a Lord of the Rings tie in, the game could easily be used as just a generic fantasy wargame with Warhammer or any other kind of miniatures. Just change the names and there is nothing that ties it to Tolkien.

So who's willing to try it? My best days are Tuesday and Friday, but with some advance notice I can probably be available almost any day.

When would work best for you?
