I am likely going to be late to our Through the Breach session this Saturday, but I honestly can't say how late.

For those of you who have never heard the story of my Grandpa, he was the youngest son of eleven brothers and sisters. He was literally "dirt-floor poor", building a small shack with his brothers in the backyard heated by a wood stove so his parents and six sisters could live in relative comfort. He was a graduate of Ellet High School and earned his pilots' license before he graduated with a BA from The University of Akron (the first generation of our family to do so). That very day, he and his brother Elmer walked over the the recruiting station and joined the Army Air Corps; Grandpa was given a direct commission and became a reserve B-24 "Liberator" pilot, logging hundreds upon hundreds of hours of flight time to prove the air-worthiness of each and every bomber before they were flown overseas to the European theater of WWII. After the war, the Army Air Corps became the Air Force and Grandpa resigned as a Major and started his own small business silk-screening signs for, among his other clients, the Goodyear Tire and Rubber Company. Back in the day, if you saw a giant Goodyear sign at Daytona or the Indy 500, my Grandpa made it. By the time I came around, Grandpa was all-but retired; despite the loss of his beloved Marjorie before my folks got married, Grandpa had five grandchildren and one great granddaughter and only stopped driving himself this past year before he passed away only after a few weeks in the hospital at the ripe-old age of 95.

His funeral will be Saturday morning, but I can't really say for certain how long that's going to be. In the meanwhile, don't be sad: Grandpa lived an amazing life and now he's reunited with Grandma Marjorie and flies with the angels.

I'll see you guys (and gals) later Saturday afternoon.
