D&D 4th Edition Player vs. Player Battle Royal!!!!

Saturday May 9th starting at 2 p.m. I’ll be hosting a multi party PvP battle royal for 4th Edition D&D. The purpose of the game is to have a whole lot of fun creating, building, and fighting other players as a 4 member pc party in a PvP setting with some extra-curricular fun added in by the DM (me). The game will take at least 8 hours.

Anyone interested in participating is more than welcome. This is not a beginner’s game, but anyone with a little 4th ed knowledge/experience who is capable of finding a teammate and making their characters is welcome to participate. All you need to do is find a partner, and between the 2 of you, make a well balanced party of 4 player characters. Each player will be building and controlling 2 characters, in coordination with their teammate, to make an effective party of 4 pc’s.

There are a few restrictions for the 4 pc party that each team must follow. At least 3 of the 4 class types (or all 4) must be used (defender, striker, leader, and controller). If you want to leave out one class type, your welcome to it, but at the minimum, at least 3 of the 4 must be taken. If you and your teammate decide to take only 3 class types, and decide to double up on one type, than that type doubled up on must be of 2 different classes.

For example, you could take 4 different types:
Cleric (leader)
Wizard (controller)
Fighter (defender)
Ranger (striker)

Or, you could leave out 1 type, and double up on another, as long as it’s a different class, for example:
Warlord (leader)
Paladin (defender)
Ranger (striker)
Rogue (striker)

All pc’s will be 4th level, and need to be made out ahead of time, in coordination with your teammate, and will be subject to review by me before the game starts. In short, everyone gets to buddy up with a pal, and try and make the best possible 4th level party they can come up with, with each person controlling 2 of the characters. All eligible 4th Edition books may be used for character creation. If using something from a dragon magazine that I may not have a copy of, please bring the source of the material with you, so I have written reference. Anything out of PH, PH2, and all the other hardbound published books are obviously available for me, so it’s all good, but please bring reference material for anything “out of the ordinary”.

Each 4th level character needs to be built generating ability scores using method 1 or 2 from the players handbook. Each 4th level character can have the following magic items:
1 5th level item
1 4th level item
1 3rd level item
And 680 gold for other items

The game itself will be set up on a fairly large playing field. The terrain will be a moderate climate semi-forested temperate zone with some hills, water, etc with each party deploying somewhat equally distant from the middle of the table. In the middle of the board there is a large stone structure. Rumors abound that inside this structure is an ultimate weapon, an item so powerful that chiefs, elders, and kings from around the area have sent in bands of warriors to claim this item. No one is exactly sure of what it is, and no one knows if the structure merely contains the item, or is an entrance into a much large catacomb. Everyone is certain that danger abounds, and defeating the hero’s of their rivals will be absolutely essential if they wish to find this ultimate item! (and win the game!)

All righty then, I can go and on with the story stuff, but figured I’d stop here! If you made it this far, and are interested, then sound off! I’ll be setting up another post for people interested and looking for teammates.

Any game related questions can be posted here, any teammate and player chatting can go off in the PvP announce yourself post.

thanks,

sarge

A couple of questions have come up. I’ll post them here so that everyone has the same info.

Q. Are you allowing the hybrids from dragon magazine? There is a post with the article in the D&D forum.

A. All the classes in the PH and PH2 are enough for this game, so no, the hybrid rules will not be used.

Q. Are you allowing the background options from the players handbook 2?

A. This depends. If your party build is well themed, then the background bonuses may apply. Remember, you are building a party, with a teammate. Well themed parties will get a little bonus as mentioned in description of the game, up to and including possible background options? If you are looking for these bonuses, than best get me a pm or email with your parties theme ahead of time.

Q. I can't find any magic item for 5th level that I really want for a couple of the builds that I've been working on. Can I trade it in for cold, hard cash and buy a couple of 2nd level ones instead?

A. No, and Yes. You can trade in your 3rd,4th, or 5th level item for a single item of a lower level, but you can’t trade it in for gold to buy multiple items with. Everyone will have 3 items, and 680 gold for other items.

If anyone has any other question, feel free to let me know.

Queston:

Is this PVP battle royal going to be considered 1 entire encounter or multiple? I would assume 1 but it matters for a few items I was looking at.

I would assume its all going to be the same day.

due to some scheduling conflicts with about half the people who could make it, the PvP will be cancelled for May 9th. I'll post again when we figure out another date for it.

thanks,
sarge
