Saturday, December 11, 2010 @ 1 pm

It is the Eve of the Emperor's Ascension. The three factions have torn JAC III from the seven hells of Chaos to the heavens themselves fighting for artifact runes as augers and portents on all sides suddenly spike in the rear lines of all three factions. With so many resources depleted and tied-up in frontline duties, only a handful of elites from all factions can be diverted to investigate the sudden and unexpected appearance of... Nothing. At the location of each auger spike, the din of distant battlefields and the heat of sweltering jungles can be felt in the baron ash wastes and the smell of salt flats and desert mingles with a hint of ozone. Reality is begining to rend itself apart opening paths from one end of the planet to the other as the sound of distant voices, speaking ancient, familiar tongues can be heard greeting all who approach the emerging nexus with joy and trepidation. Is this a trick of foul magicks? The awakening of a slumbering god? Eldar trickery? Whispers of Chaos? Who knows; but what must be done is abundantly clear...

Entrance Fee: At least one canned good/non-perishable food item (to be added later to the stuff that the Privateer people will be collecting when they have their food drive/tournament the following weekend on the 17th of December). Failing that, give us a dollar and we'll go make a run down to the dollar store to get a can of something on your behalf.

Forces: Each player has 500 points and must select one single-model HQ choice from his/her parent codex. No other Force Organization Chart requirements apply. (In other words, all you have to bring is a single-model HQ and whatever you want; it doesn't have to be two troops because those are not compulsory for this event!)

Objective: The complete, total, and utter annihilation of the other two factions by any means necessary.

Deployment: Each faction shall be deployed anywhere on a 4'x4' table. Terrain on each table will be appropriate for each faction. The lead faction will have the option of deploying their forces on three 4' tables, the faction in second place will have two tables and the third will have a single table to deploy on. One table edge by the controlling player(s) shall be nominated to face the Nexus.

Line of Retreat: All units in a friendly deployment zone fall back towards the board edge opposite the Nexus board edge. All units on tables other than their own faction fall back towards the Nexus board edge and continue to fall back upon reaching their deployment zone.

Special Rules:

Attack/Defend: All units on a board other than their faction's board(s) are designated as Attacking units and all units on their own faction's board(s) are designated as Defending. Units in base contact with their Nexus board edge and preparing to move through the Nexus are considered Attacking and must move to another table at the beginning of the Attack Phase. Units may move into base contact with the Nexus edge of their table(s) during the Defending phase and may only shoot as they are covering their own unit's translation into the Aether on the following turn. Note: The three-way nature of this campaign means that traditional turn-based play will bog down the game if the factions are allowed their own "turns" and nothing would get accomplished. A unit may only be designated Attacking or Defending once each turn, but may switch from Defending to Attacking or vice-versa throughout the game.

Victims of Success: Having a larger area to defend means that a faction must dedicate its limited resources appropriately. Each faction will be given one section of anti-tank obstacles, three sections of sandbags and one minefield to be placed anywhere in the controlling player(s) deployment zones before deployment.

A Twist of the Magi: Before the dawn, each HQ model dreams of a time when they were young and life wasn't so bad back home with a tree and all kinds of presents lying beneath it and all of their new-found "friends" are there to share the day with them. Upon waking up, each HQ discovers their "gift" is in their hands...! After deployment, but before the first turn, each player puts his/her name into a hat and draws at random any name other than their own. Use your parent codex to select a single item of up to 50 points of wargear from your HQ selection to give to the player they drew. The HQ model of that player must use that piece of wargear for the duration of the game.

The Nexus: As insubstantial as thin air, yet constant as the night sky, the Nexus is a construct that allows great distances to be traversed by a single step in the space of the blink of an eye. To move through the Nexus, each model in a unit must be in base contact with the designated Nexus table edge at the beginning of the Attacking phase. They will reappear on the designated table edge of their choice moving onto the table as if they moved out of reserves and may shoot and assault as normal.

If you are late to the start of the game, you will enter play on the board edge opposite of the Nexus in your own deployment zone during the Defensive phase.

It also just so happens that I have a full army from each faction just laying around that I won't have anything better to do with that day...

Hey, serious question: Does anybody have a small, portable TV that I can use to keep tabs on the annual Army-Navy football game that day?

It's always traditionally been on the first weekend in December, but they changed it to the 11th!

Okay... As far as Dru can determine, the Forces of the Imperium are going to get three tables, Chaos will get two, and the Alien factions will get one for tomorrow's mega battle.

I'll see you guys on the flip...
